What if the spaces we spend our lives in impact us more than we think?
Indoor environments shape our daily lives more than we often realize. On average, we spend around 90% of our time indoors – at home, in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, restaurants, and many other places. These spaces are more than just walls and ceilings – they play a vital role in our health, comfort, and performance.

A well-regulated indoor environment helps everyone. We think more clearly when CO₂ levels are reduced. By reducing exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and fine dust particles (PM), we not only prevent discomfort and long-term health risks but also gain a greater sense of clarity, calmness, and energy in our daily lives. We feel more at ease when noise levels are low and light is balanced. We have more energy when temperature and humidity are just right. For those with health concerns such as asthma, allergies, or fatigue, supportive indoor conditions can be essential for symptom relief and recovery. But even healthy individuals benefit significantly – maintaining good health, improving cognitive performance, and enhancing overall well-being.

Traditional indoor monitoring systems face multiple limitations – especially when it comes to understanding the real impact of environmental factors on health criteria. Many operate in isolation, collecting raw data without connecting it to meaningful insights or recommendations. Users are presented with values and charts, but with less analysis and practical guidance or actions based on solid ground regarding health criteria. As a result, it remains unclear how specific environmental factors – like CO₂ levels, fine dust, or VOCs – influence well-being, stress, performance, and more. Moreover, existing systems are often expensive and difficult to integrate into real-world spaces – especially when infrastructure or technical expertise is limited.

VitoNode was developed to change that:
The idea draws on years of practical experience in industry and scientific research – including a PhD project rooted in work at TU Dresden in Germany and the University of Cambridge in the UK. This foundation gave us valuable insights into the connections between indoor environments and human health. We have developed an integrated hardware and software solution that is easy to deploy, cost-effective, and scalable. It covers the full chain for healthier indoor environments – from high-precision measurement and algorithmic evaluation to the intelligent control of connected devices.
